Insurance and Addiction
Many people looking for help for themselves or a loved one usually want to know if any of the intervention or treatment center cost will be covered by insurance. Intervention is not covered by insurance, however some treatment centers do take
insurance as a primary form of payment. Most of the treatment centers require being paid up front and then will work with you to help get reimbursed. The treatment centers that do take insurance do the best they can to help you get as much coverage as possible, however it is usually a small amount of financial coverage or a limited number of days allowed in treatment. I would like to think the insurance companies cared about you or your loved one getting better, however that would just be a false reality. Insurance companies like to make money and deny claims, not cover your inpatient treatment expenses. Family First Intervention will do whatever we can to help you find a treatment center that is the best fit based on the insurance that you have, however we do let families know that they should be prepared to pay out of pocket expenses or co-pay amounts. Treatment centers, like any other health care provider, have to work very hard to try and get expenses covered to insure you or your loved one is getting the proper care for the longest time possible. Along with the treatment centers we work with we will do whatever we can to help put together an affordable treatment plan for you or your loved one.
Insurance for Treatment
We don't want to stereotype every insurance company as bad because we have seen our fair share of policies that do have great coverage for chemical dependency benefits however, they are few and far between. We actually see insurance companies that try to offer coverage for an inpatient treatment center at $35.00 a day which is impossible. Other insurance companies want to offer outpatient treatment twice a week to a $150.00 a day heroin user to see if it works before considering an inpatient facility; we have never seen that work. Insurance company's coverage is determined by a panel of business men and women or maybe even doctors or psychiatrists who lack knowledge on the addiction model or what is required to treat it. We see insurance companies waste millions and millions of dollars messing around with inadequate coverage such as outpatient or 7 days of inpatient as a first response to treatment. If they just covered the appropriate care the first time they would probably never have to pay the benefits again, instead they just keep paying for the same sub par coverage each calender year and then claim that addiction can not be treated. This does not even take into consideration the health problems addicted people have that the insurance company ends up having to cover on top of this down the road because the alcohol or drug abuse is not being properly treated. If treatment for addiction is done properly the first time it is very unlikely that you will have to keep going through it over and over again. Using a professional intervention group and a quality inpatient treatment center will greatly increase the success rate of long term sobriety for your loved one needing help.
