Alcohol Intervention

Most people unfortunately are under the impression that alcohol, because legal and socially acceptable is something that can just be stopped if and when the drinking gets out of hand. Unfortunately this is not true if you are an alcoholic needing alcohol intervention because your life is getting worse and not better. Like drug addiction, alcohol is not the problem it is actually the solution for the drinker.Families schedule alcohol intervention when the solution, which is alcohol, becomes uncontrollable for both the family and the alcoholic. Most alcoholics use the manipulation of fear or denial to keep their families at a distance. They actually mold the families behavior untilalcohol addiction intervention one day you just simply do not confront the alcoholic because if you do they will just blow up or deny they have a problem. The reality is most alcohol abuse cases that we do alcohol intervention on are in denial because they believe that the problem is everything but them, and let's not forget the alcoholic has an answer for everything. Alcohol intervention almost always deals with stubborn, self centered, self absorbed people, who take no accountability for their actions and blame their problems and every other person place or thing. Like drug addiction, alcoholics feel that if they can just control the alcohol consumption they will be fine. Did you know that unlike crack, heroin, or meth, alcohol has the highest rate of death during detox. Alcohol intervention saves families from having to go through anymore pain brought on by the alcoholic.

Intervention for Alcohol

It is important that families try to understand how an alcohol intervention can help them and their loved one. It is dangerous for a person not trained in intervention for alcohol to try and obtain willingness from an alcoholic without a solid plan and a trained professional present. After intervention for alcohol it is extremely important to have the alcoholic go directly to treatment with a medical detox first. You never want to risk the alcoholic going into withdrawal without trained medical staff present. Time and time again we hear the stories of families who try to do alcohol intervention themselves or use untrained doctors, psychiatrist, or even therapist and the alcoholic ends up talking the family into a solution different than what was decided on in the first place.Alcohol intervention is designed to get your loved one back and have you realize that you did everything in your power to save them. Through alcohol intervention you give alcohol abuser back their problem so they actually have something to fix. Once they have something to fix, and understand they are responsible for the solution as well as become accountable for their actions, then and only then will they enter treatment and gain long term sobriety. Long term sobriety is one of the most important goals of alcohol intervention.

Why Alcohol Intervention

Families, usually clinging to hope, accept almost any decision from the alcoholic just because they want to believe it is sincere and they will stop this time despite broken promises in the past.  This usually ends up as a false sense of hope because the alcoholic once again chose the easiest option with no success.  Alcohol intervention is the best solution a family can make because they only have one shot at doing the intervention the right way. So many times we have families call us who attempted alcohol intervention themselves, and through no bad intentions, actually make the situation worse. It is important to realize that without a professional, the alcoholic will almost always win against a family not educated on addiction, alcoholism, or alcohol intervention. The alcoholic will always settle on the least form of rehab and will almost always convince the family that they can stop with a low level of care such as therapy or A.A meetings. If you are a family who has gone through this long enough with your alcoholic loved one than I am sure you have heard the "I will just go to meetings", "I mean it this time", or "I can just stop". All of these promises are with good intentions, however these promises are quickly forgotten and the alcoholic is back to drinking within weeks or even days. Remember, the problem is not the alcohol it is the person. Statistically, alcoholics who go to long term treatment after alcohol intervention have the highest rate of success. That is because everybody changes their role from the unhealthy family created by the alcoholic, to the actual alcohol themselves. Unless the whole group changes, most likely nothing will change.
