About Us

Mike Loverde created iStock_000010885909Small.jpgFamily First Intervention with a primary purpose and that is to save your loved one before it is to late and to help the family that suffers waiting for them to change. Every day we hear families tell us that they were told that there is nothing that they can do if their loved one does not want help or that they need to hit bottom and that is frustrating to me. As the owner of Family First Intervention, my family waited several years for me to hit this bottom that never came, meet that right special someone to change me that I never met, find that right job I never got that will fix me or for me to want it like everyone said I would eventually do, but never did. Did you know that 90% of substance abusers accept help at an intervention and go onto treatment Family First Intervention exists because intervention is what saved my life and helped me get to the right treatment center without my family having to wait for me to figure it out myself at their expense or die. Having worked with several treatment centers and with other intervention groups, we understand the importance of helping the family and their loved one first when others do not. Many interventionist practicing in the field today have little experience, operate independently without a team or staff, have no accreditation’s and carry no professional liability insurance. Intervention is not about someone just talking the addict or alcoholic into treatment, it requires much more than that starting with family first. Just having someone talk to your loved one or you talking to them yourself may get your loved one into treatment, however that is not how you get them to stay in treatment and remain sober. The other concern I had and needed to change was the treatment center choices for addicts and alcoholics needing help. Many intervention groups work with certain treatment centers exclusively and send your loved one to that particular center whether or not it is the best fit. Although we refer to different treatment centers, Family First Intervention works for the family, not the treatment center. We do the best we can to get your loved one to the appropriate treatment center based on their addiction, problems and needs. The purpose of Family First Intervention is to bring the family together, deliver the best intervention solution for your family and loved one and bring you loved one to the appropriate treatment center that will actually help them.

Why Family First Intervention Works

When we first started doing interventions we thought that families would be knocking down our doors for our intervention services. We thought everyone that inquired about intervention was going to be ready to go through with change. Even though we receive hundreds of calls a month the reality is, it is actually easier to talk an addict or alcoholic into treatment than it is to get the family to allow us to do the intervention and take their loved one to treatment. It is thought by many that intervention is just about talking the addict or alcoholic into treatment. A family affected by addiction has most likely become an unhealthy family system that the addict or alcoholic has created. This unhealthy family system is comprised of many different roles all working against each other making the reality of the addict or alcoholic getting better non existent. To change the mind of an addict or alcoholic requires us to change the mindset of all of the family members and redefining their roles. The unhealthy family system working against each other created by the addict has to be repaired. The most common question asked is “what if the intervention doesn’t work?” My response usually is “what if we do nothing at all?  We have to exhaust all options so that the family knows that they did everything in their power to stop the addiction with their loved one. Doing nothing at all is an extreme form of enabling and usually leaves the family asking themselves, is there something else we could have done Family First Intervention knows it is hard for the family to change, however if a change does not happen, the substance abuser is likely to take the family down to the bottom with them.
